‘They say: You can’t go home’ – Oh, YES I can!

Sixteen years ago, my daily mantra was as follows:

“Here” being the house I shared with my parents and younger brother.

I hated living by their “stupid” rules. I hated being told “what to do” and more importantly, “how to do it.” I hated my job at McDonald’s. I hated them telling me the days I could and could not see my boyfriend.

There were times when I thought I would NEVER get out of “THAT” house.

Oh, aren’t we stupid as teenagers?

Today, I nearly begged my mom to open her doors and allow my children and me to tear apart their house.

It started like this:

“So, whatcha doing this weekend?”

Basically, they weren’t doing much of anything.

Then I just said it, “Can I bring the kids and visit? I am so tired of my four walls!!!!”

She said, “Sure!” without checking with my dad … hope he is OK with the plans, otherwise, OOPS!

Every February I start to feel, well blah is about the only word.

I am tired of winter temps. I am tired of the daily struggles with the kids. I am tired of hearing “MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!” a million times a day, over and over. I am tired of being the ONLY person who seems to know where ANYTHING in this house is located – coats, shoes, book bags, lunchboxes, clothes, underwear, socks, books, mittens, hats and the list goes on and on and on …

So, I figured, well, it was time for a vacation!

Back to my hometown we shall go! Back to the place I never thought I would be BEGGING to enter 16 years ago … my old house!

Only this time come Sunday afternoon, I bet my parents will be saying, “I CANNOT WAIT FOR HER TO LEAVE WITH HER CHILDREN!” since we do tend to cause mass chaos everywhere we go!
