Clumps and ducks – all in a day’s work

I could never be a kindergarten teacher. Although, one time, I came close – I once substitute taught a second-grade class. Funny, that school never called me to sub there again …

But anyways, back to kindergarten students.

I have two who hop off the bus at 3:50 p.m. every day. And, every day, I hear the strangest tales. Most of the time, I think they are exaggerating the truth …

Listening to them talk about their day when they walk in the door and devour an after-school snack is hilarious.

Remember – they are in separate classes, so once they meet up at the end of the day, it’s a non-stop talkfest in our house.

A few moments ago, one of them needed to use the bathroom.

“Why don’t you go at school?” – one asked the other.

“I can’t! Aren’t you afraid of everyone HEARING your CLUMPS?” – came the answer.

“No! No one hears MY CLUMPS and I don’t think they hear my CLUMPS!” – the other responded.

“Well, I can’t GO at school because everyone will hear my CLUMPS!” – that was the final statement of that conversation.

That flipped it over to me asking my son about his day …

“We didn’t have gym today. We watched TV about ducks.” – he said.

“HUH? What do you mean?” I asked, perplexed.

“That’s how we learned about our ducks and jump rope and then I got a duck,” he responded.

And then it dawned on me …

For the past seven days, he has wanted me to fill out a paper for the Jump Rope for Heart at school. And, I finally filled it out and gave him $5 donation … and in turn he received a duck on a keychain.

Guess it pays to pay attention to what your kids bring home in their folders … and when they use the bathroom too … because for kindergarteners, it’s all in a day’s work!
