YOLO WINERY, DOVER, OHIO

The wine glasses say it all – YOLO – “You Only Live Once … on Earth.”

The quaint, yet retro wine bar, “YOLO” located at West 2nd Street in Dover, Ohio brought together people from every walk of life the evening of August 22, 2015.

Many locals were there supporting YOLO’s owners, Kim Mishler and Gloria as they celebrated their one-year anniversary of opening the wine bar in the quiet town of Dover.

But, for my husband and I, we were there celebrating our 15-year-wedding anniversary sans our three kids. And it truly was our version of heaven on earth, and probably the closest I will get to New York City for the next five years.

The atmosphere alone screams sophistication with a touch of coziness thanks to the couches set up throughout the bar. I was honestly waiting for the cast of “Sex in the City” to show up at any time – Carrie, Charlotte, Samantha and Miranda belonged in this bar.

Before we ventured into Dover, we spent a better part of the afternoon sipping wine at the local wineries situated along the Old State Route 39. Yet, by the time the sun was starting to set, we were craving something new. The rustic atmosphere was pleasant during the day, but by the evening hours, we needed to step it up a notch, otherwise, I was going to fall asleep in the middle of a vineyard.

“Let’s try out that YOLO place …,” I said to him as he programmed the address into his cell phone GPS. “If it doesn’t work out, we can go back to the hotel.”

As soon as we walked in, we were transported to a place with a New York state-of-mind, with its classy décor and out of this world wine selection, we soon found ourselves sitting at the bar of Dover’s best kept secret – YOLO.

From the quirky, yet appropriate wine titles, “Life is Good,” “Whatever,” “Jump for Joy” and “Laugh Out Loud,” guests all around us fell in love at first sip. Once the three-man band began playing, the energy inside YOLO went from 10 to 100 within seconds.

Thank you, YOLO, for making my husband and I remember why we fell in love in the first place. On the make-shift dance floor, we held each other and the rest of the world disappeared.

Around the tables and chairs, everyone became fast friends. No one inside YOLO was in a bad mood. No one complained of work or life. Laughs echoed throughout the bar and smiles were worth a million dollars.

And no one wanted it to end.

But like all good things in life, closing time was soon approaching, so we knew our time was coming to end. But for those five hours, my husband and I truly “Laughed Out Loud” inside YOLO, because after all … You Only Live Once (on Earth).
